I’m pretty sure I saw Darrell Scott punt during St. Bonaventure’s first game of the season against Santa Margarita. He was very impressive. He is not punting today. This is too bad, because I wanted to get clear in my mind that Scott was my choice as the punter for The Times All-Star team, which will be released later this month.

Patrick Hall is punting for St. Bonaventure. Three punts, 34.3 average. Long of 45.

Scott may be the No. 1 recruit in the country, but there were some pretty good running backs who had better seasons, like Centennial’s Ryan Bass and Birmingham’s Milton Knox. And I’m told by my colleague, Dan Arritt, that Chris Polk of Redlands East Valley is better than all of them.

The point is, it’s good that Scott can multi-task. I’d just like to see it. Just think of the fake punt opportunities.
