Just received the final statistics from the Division III state bowl game between St. Bonaventure and Modesto Central Catholic.

Everything was pretty close, except for the biggest stat, the final score: St. Bonny 35, Central Catholic 21.

The total yards were almost identical, 393 for St. Bonny and 390 for the Raiders.

The running back matchup was also pretty close.

Darrell Scott of St. Bonaventure, the top-rated ballcarrier in the nation, finished with 162 yards in 17 carries, two touchdowns rushing and another passing.

Louis Bland, the two-time state wrestling champion, finished with 199 yards in 24 carries and two touchdowns. The Raiders rushed for 302 yards as a team, while St. Bonny totaled 224.

St. Bonny quarterback Casey Serna completed eight of 14 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught a touchdown pass from Scott. Serna pumped up his numbers with that 70-yard touchdown pass to Drew Gibson in the third quarter.

In his first varsity start, Central Catholic sophomore quarterback Dylan Swartz completed 10 of 14 passes for 116 yards and a score.

The turnovers and penalties were identical, so I guess the biggest difference were the big plays by St. Bonny, namely the 70-yard touchdown reception and the 48-yard touchdown run by Scott.
