Holding a 14-7 lead in the state Division II bowl game, Novato appears to have suffered a significant injury to its offensive unit.

Junior quarterback Jeff Stephens hurt his left ankle when he was sacked with about 2 1/2 minutes left in the first half. He couldn’t put any pressure on the leg as he hopped off the field. In my unprofessional medical opinion, he’s done for the night. He got spun around on the sack and it appeared his leg bent at an awkward angle. He walked to the locker room with a noticeable limp with about two minutes left in the first half.

Novato doesn’t have another quarterback listed on its roster, so running back Kyle Campas took over for Stephens during the last minute of the first half.

Before Stephens’ injury, the Hornets produced their second turnover of the second quarter, when Kirk Pingatore intercepted a deep pass from from Jordan Wynn.

I wonder if Oceanside smells blood in the water?
