You had to figure there would be some kind of backlash for Darrell Scott after his high-profile transfer from Moorpark to St. Bonaventure over the summer. And while things remained somewhat quiet for a majority of the season, the powers that be had the final say when the Ventura County Football Coaches Assn. announced its postseason honors.

Chris Brown of Newbury Park, not Scott, was named the county’s offensive back after rushing for 1,904 yards and scoring 24 touchdowns as a junior. Scott, on the other hand, gained 2,589 yards on the ground, found the end zone 37 times and led the Seraphs to a victory in the Division III bowl game. His reward? A spot on the second team, as a utility player, no less. You do the math.

Scott still could end up having the last laugh. He is, after all, one of the most sought-after recruits in the nation and will end up at the school of his choice, despite being overlooked by the coaches within the county borders.
