Narbonne and Chatsworth will be the easiest choices when selection committee gathers Saturday to seed the City girls’ basketball playoffs.

There’s a second tier of teams that include defending champion Taft, Washington, Granada Hills, Wilson, Fairfax, Grant, View Park and Crenshaw also ready to gobble up playoff berths.

Then there’s Garfield.

The Bulldogs (15-8, 10-0) have won the Eastern League. They have a talented player in senior guard Nayelli Felix, who averages 14.9 points and 8.1 rebounds a game. But they probably don’t carry much weight with the committee in regards to a high seeding for the playoffs.

Garfield Coach Jessica Perez isn’t loudly stumping for a berth in the City Championship bracket, but that’s where she would like to see her team.

For that possibility, Perez said, Garfield has to complete the league unscathed. The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season at home against Bell on Wednesday, then travel to Jordan on Friday

‘I would like us to play in the championship round. So it’s important for us to go undefeated in league,’ she said. ‘We’re not in the strongest of leagues, and it wouldn’t look good if we lose one of the last two.’
