Anyone who thinks they know how things are going to play out in the Marmonte League this year better consult their crystal baseball one more time. At least that’s the feeling over here at The Times’ now that Westlake whacked our top-ranked team on Friday afternoon.

Cutter Dykstra scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch after hitting a two-run triple in the bottom of the fourth to propel the Warriors to an 8-6 victory over Thousand Oaks on Friday.

It’s a big win as far as I’m concerned, but don’t look for Westlake Coach Zach Miller to be reminiscing about this one. The self-described ‘old school’ coach was proud of his boys, but he’s already looking ahead to tomorrow’s contest with Ventura.

‘Teams around here just beat each other up,’ said Miller, who’s in his first year with the Warriors after coaching at Agoura from 2000-03. ‘Every game is big, so we can’t make a big deal out of it.’

Coach, don’t you understand? It’s our job to make a big deal out of everything, even if your team has 20 more games to go until the playoffs!

Kidding aside, Miller is right. This is simply another one of those ‘that’s a little weird’ baseball scores and nobody shouldn’t read too deeply into it. Take me for example -- even though my crystal ball has let me down so far, I’m still picking the Lancers to win the league title.
