Oxnard’s Shutt is a three-sport standout

I’m starting to believe Oxnard‘s Derek Shutt excels at every sport he plays. Just days after he picked up his second Pacific View League player of the year honor, Shutt put up an 11-strikeout performance in the Yellowjackets’ 28-2 blowout victory over Channel Islands.

OK, I know Channel Islands isn’t the best team on the block, but it’s pretty amazing what Shutt has accomplished during Oxnard’s 7-1 start. He’s been one of the go-to guys on offense and, along with fellow starter Mikel Beltran, has given Oxnard the most feared pitching staff in the Pacific View League.

Pretty impressive for a guy who was named the Pacifiv View League boys’ basketball co-MVP of the year and garnered PVL defensive player of the year honors for football last fall.

Oh, and I’m pretty sure Shutt isn’t any good at bocce ball. At least there’s one sport out there we know he doesn’t dominate. But given enough time and training ...
