Football: Taft 34, Birmingham 22

Taft has come away with the West Valley League championship after a 34-22 victory over Birmingham. It was a wild fourth quarter, with the game tied, 14-14, with less than five minutes left.

Then Taft came up with a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown by Shaquille Shelton. Then Birmingham’s Trajuan Briggs put his team up, 22-21, with a touchdown and two-point conversion run. Then D.J. Morgan caught a 65-yard touchdown pass for Taft and a 28-22 lead. Then Oliver Johnson returned an interception 51 yards for the clinching touchdown. Taft added a third interception in the fourth quarter by Jarrett Tryon.

Taft finishes the regular season at 9-1 and 5-0 in league. Birmingham is 5-5 and 4-1.
