Capistrano Valley pitcher Tyler Matzek and Orange Lutheran counterpart Andrew Thurman have both escaped jams to preserve a scoreless tie going into the fourth inning of their Division I second-round playoff game this evening at Hart Park in Orange.

Capistrano Valley loaded the bases with one out in the third. But Thurman retired the next two batters on fly balls.

Orange Lutheran then threatened in the bottom of the inning when leadoff hitter Josh Doyle singled and went to second on a sacrifice. Doyle advanced to third on an errant pickoff throw after Matzek struck out Willie Shaw on a full count, but Matzek struck out Robby Vaughn on a full count to end the inning.

The winner will play Marina in a quarterfinal.
