Baseball: No. 1 El Toro is upset in Division II

Here’s a shocker from the Southern Section Division II baseball playoffs. Top-seeded El Toro was upset by Redlands East Valley, 6-2.

El Toro (22-6) was the defending champion and heavy favorite. But the team lost its No. 1 pitcher, Chad Thompson, to injury last month, making the Chargers ripe for defeat against a quality team.

Third-seeded Sherman Oaks Notre Dame was eliminated after losing 3-1 to Chino Hills. #2 seed Yucaipa is the only one of the four seeds that advanced to the quarterfinals, defeating Cypress 10-4 today.
