Baseball: La Mirada wins 13th in a row

La Mirada got a six-hitter from Arizona-bound Daniel Poncedeleon to defeat Rialto, 2-1, in a Southern Section Division 2 second-round playoff game. It was La Mirada’s 13th consecutive victory.

Nick Mata had two hits and Justin Torres had an RBI single for La Mirada (23-8).

Sophomore Kees t’Sas threw the complete game in Santa Barbara’s 7-0 victory over West Hills Chaminade. Top-seeded Glendora defeated North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake, 5-3.

Other Division 2 scores: Placentia Valencia 11, Upland 7; Mira Costa 8, Cypress 3; La Verne Damien 6, Redlands East Valley 2; El Toro 4, Garden Grove Pacifica 2; Yucaipa 13, Northwood 7.

The matchups on Friday: Valencia at Glendora; Mira Costa at La Mirada; Damien at El Toro and Santa Barbara at Yucaipa.

In Division 4, top-seeded La Puente Bishop Amat defeated Ontario Colony, 14-6. Rio Ruiz had a single, double and triple.

In Division 5, Eddie Munoz threw a complete game as North Hollywood Campbell Hall defeated Covina Western Christian, 9-1. Pasadena Maranatha defeated Hesperia, 5-1.Van Nuys Montclair Prep defeated Big Bear, 20-10. Max Miller had a grand slam for the Mounties, who also got four RBIs apiece from Ben McKendall and Paul Aldape.
