No. 2-seeded Simi Valley Royal defeated Anaheim Esperanza, 9-4. And the big news is that ace Cody Buckel only had to pitch one inning, making him available for Friday’s quarterfinals against San Clemente, which beat San Juan Capistrano JSerra, 3-1.
Tyler Abbott, headed to UC Irvine, got the victory for the Highlanders, striking out eight in six innings. Ryan Tinkham went four for four with a home run and double. Buckel also hit a home run.
Dana Point Dana Hills defeated Murrieta Valley, 6-3. Moorpark defeated El Modena, 6-5.
Santa Ana Mater Dei got a three-run home run from Cory Hahn and six shutout innings from Hahn in an 8-0 victory over Camarillo. Mater Dei will play Lakewood, which defeated Riverside Poly, 5-4, in eight innings.
