No Action Is Planned Against Knight
Indiana University President John Ryan said Tuesday that he planned to take no action against head basketball Coach Bob Knight following Knight’s now-famous chair toss at the Purdue-Indiana game Saturday.
Knight was ejected from the game after gathering two technical fouls and then tossing his chair across the Assembly Hall court just five minutes into the game. Purdue went on to win, 72-63, dropping the Hoosiers to 6-8 in the Big Ten Conference.
Ryan spoke Tuesday at an area Rotary Club luncheon meeting, where he refused to comment on the incident during his speech, but later talked to reporters.
“As far as I’m concerned, the key thing is to recognize that that particular incident is wrong--and we’ve done that; the coach has done that. And that it can’t be allowed and it can’t be repeated. And the coach has acknowledged that,” Ryan said. “As far as I’m concerned, the main issue’s been addressed.”
