Police were searching for a woman suffering from Alzheimer’s disease who apparently strayed from a plane during a brief stopover at Los Angeles International Airport and was still missing after more than 24 hours. Phyllis von Stroheim, 62, former daughter-in-law of the late film director Erich von Stroheim, was traveling alone from Minnesota to her home in Hawaii when the plane made the stopover in Los Angeles, where she once resided, authorities said. The woman, who was wearing brown clothing and was described as 5 feet 3 and weighing about 150 pounds, has suffered in recent years from the disease characterized by disorientation.
