Couple Injured in Mobile Home Fire
A man and woman were injured and their mobile home destroyed in an early morning fire Sunday, sheriff’s deputies reported.
Mary Hassman, 55, was taken by Life Flight to UC San Diego Burn Center about 4 a.m. with second-degree burns over 18% of her body. She was reported in fair condition Sunday night. Her husband, Arthur Hassman, 66, suffered smoke inhalation and first-degree burns, and was taken to El Cajon Valley Hospital, where he was reported in stable condition.
Santee and El Cajon firefighters were called to the blaze at the Rancho Mesa Mobile Home Park in the 400 block of East Bradley Avenue just before 4 a.m., deputies said. The fire was under control within 20 minutes.
Preliminary indications are that the fire was accidental, deputies said, but arson detectives are investigating. Damage was estimated at $60,000.
