Police Identify Youth Shot to Death at Park
The 15-year old boy who was shot to death at Hansen Dam Park on Thursday has been identified as Jose Venegas of Pacoima, Los Angeles police said Friday.
Venegas was shot from a passing car as he stood with several friends, Detective Cliff Huff said.
He died at Lake View Terrace Medical Center, where he was taken by friends who left before they could be questioned, Huff said.
Huff said Venegas is a known gang member, and that two members of a rival gang are under investigation.
After an unrelated shooting in the park within 15 minutes of the assault on Venegas, police arrested two members of a Compton car club on suspicion of murder, Lt. Bernard Conine said. Police would not release the names of the men.
Rudolph Burke, 27, of Pacoima was shot after an altercation with the two members of the car club at about 3 p.m. Thursday, Conine said. The shooting occurred 150 yards from where Venegas was attacked, police said.
Burke died at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills.
