A Fallbrook teen-ager pleaded guilty Tuesday in Superior Court in Vista to setting the Fallbrook public library on fire in March, destroying 30,000 books and causing about $1 million in damage.

Darryl Ray Mick, 18, pleaded guilty before Superior Court Judge Don Martinson to one count of arson and will be sentenced Aug. 20. He faces a maximum sentence of six years in prison and a $10,000 fine for the felony crime, but he asked to be sent to the California Youth Authority.

The district attorney’s office dropped three other felony counts of arson and two misdemeanor counts of vandalism in exchange for the guilty plea.

During his preliminary hearing, Mick was described by an arson investigator as being angry over the loss of a part-time job and thought about burning a church before directing his attention at the library.
