Monday Is the Deadline for S.D. Voters to Register

Residents of San Diego City Council districts one, three, five and seven have until midnight Monday to register in time to vote in the Sept. 17 municipal primary election.

Voters will be selecting candidates for a council seat in each of those districts. Voters will select candidates in their own district for a place on the November ballot, when council candidates will be elected by a citywide vote.

Seats in the other City Council districts are not up for election.

City Clerk Charles G. Abdelnour said residents may register to vote at City Hall, 202 C St., or at the office of the county registrar of voters, 5201 Ruffin Road. The offices are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

On Monday, four locations within the council districts will be open from 5 p.m. until midnight to accommodate late registrants. Those are the registrar of voters office, Fire Station 26 at 54th Street and College Grove Drive, Fire Station 33 on Bernardo Center Drive and Fire Station 35 at the Eastgate Mall.

Council District 1 includes La Jolla, University City, Del Mar Heights and Rancho Bernardo; District 3 encompasses Encanto, East San Diego, North Park, Kensington and Normal Heights; District 5 takes in Linda Vista, Serra Mesa and Mira Mesa, and District 7 includes the state college area, Tierrasanta and San Carlos.

Voters must be at least 18 years of age, be a U.S. citizen, not be on parole or in prison for the conviction of a felony.
