McComish Shoots a 65 for Queen Mary Lead
John McComish shot a seven-under-par 65 to take the first-round lead Thursday in the $60,000 Queen Mary Open golf tournament at the Lakewood Country Club in Long Beach.
The former California State Open champion from Santa Maria had eight birdies and was one stroke ahead of Vic Wilk of Los Angeles, Tom Lamore of Santa Ana and Craig Chapman of Palm Springs.
Defending champion Ernie Gonzalez of Chula Vista was one of eight players at 67.
