The Los Angeles company will dispose of most of its low-growth metals businesses as part of a restructuring. The defense, health and specialty chemicals company said it agreed to dissolve Whittar Industries, a partnership with Arlen Corp., a New York real estate holding company. Whittaker said that as part of the breakup, Arlen will get Technibilt, a Newton, N.C., maker of shopping carts, and Grant, a Los Angeles maker of steering wheels and automobile security devices. Whittaker said it will get and then sell the steel strip and Juster Steel divisions.
