DeLong Survives Scare for First Win in NASCAR Season
Richard DeLong of Granada Hills led from start to finish to win his first NASCAR Sportsman Division race of the season Saturday night at Saugus Speedway.
DeLong had trouble coming out of the fourth turn on the one-third mile oval in lap two of the race, but made a good move inside between two cars to get clear of the track.
On the re-start, he came back in the lead position and finished ahead of the 24-car field in a race that was peppered with five caution periods.
Bob Campenella of Canoga Park finished second while Jeff Phillips finished third.
John Kirby of Ventura denied Bryan Hayden of Palmdale his fourth straight season victory by winning the 25-lap Street Stock Division.
Hayden finished second while Craig Rayburn of Simi Valley finished third.
