Shy Elephant That Spurned Love Dies
Frederik, Denmark’s shy bull elephant which fled and fell after persistent sexual harassment from seven amorous female elephants, has died of an apparent heart attack, nature park director Leif Nielsen said Friday.
The three-ton, 16-year-old Frederik fell on his side in a shallow lake on Monday while fleeing his female pursuers. The females tried to push him upright to no avail and finally Nielsen had to call in rescue services with a crane to do the job.
But the stress was too much for Frederik and his heart stopped, Nielsen said.
