Two Navy men who allegedly pirated La Buena Vida, a 50-foot luxury yacht valued at $350,000, from its Shelter Island moorings Saturday night and took an oceangoing joy ride were arrested Sunday by Mission Bay Harbor Patrol officers.
Patrick Jones, 19, and Ronald Wood, 22, were booked into County Jail on suspicion of grand theft, according to San Diego police.
Mission Bay Lifeguard Nick Lerma said the pleasure craft was spotted by an alert lifeguard, Shari Peters, about 1 p.m. Sunday in Mission Bay. Officers Ron Hall and Jethro Hudgins boarded the stolen yacht and arrested the two sailors, who surrendered without incident.
The yacht was towed to Mission Bay Harbor Patrol headquarters in Quivira Basin, apparently undamaged.
