Escondido
A 34-year-old man was killed by gunmen in his home Sunday morning in what sheriff’s deputies said they believed to be a drug-related robbery. A second man was injured by the gunmen.
Daryl Lee French was shot in the chest by assailants who entered his house in the 1900 block of Cloverdale Road in an unincorporated area of the county near Escondido about 6:30 a.m., sheriff’s deputies said. Richard Reid, 31, was beaten on the head by the gunmen, deputies said.
French was dead at the scene. Reid was treated at Palomar Hospital. Deputies reported that witnesses said they saw two or three armed intruders force their way into the rural home. Homicide detectives are investigating.
