Two Navy men who allegedly pirated “La Buena Vida,” a 50-foot luxury yacht valued at about $350,000, from its Shelter Island moorings in San Diego and took an oceangoing joy ride were arrested by Mission Bay Harbor Patrol officers. The two sailors, Patrick Jones, 19, and Ronald Wood, 22, were booked into San Diego County Jail on suspicion of grand theft, according to San Diego police. Mission Bay lifeguard Nick Lerma said the pleasure craft was spotted by an alert lifeguard, Shari Peters, in Mission Bay. Officers Ron Hall and Jethro Hudgins boarded the stolen yacht and arrested the two sailors, who surrendered without incident. The yacht was towed to Mission Bay Harbor Patrol headquarters in Quivira Basin, apparently undamaged.
