Pig’s Feet, Pork Skins Recalled Because of Possible Spoilage

A Los Angeles processor is voluntarily recalling pig’s feet and pork skins because the products “may contain food spoilage organisms,” the U.S. Agriculture Department said Friday.

The firm is La Joya Products, said Lester M. Crawford, associate administrator of the department’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. The products are sold in California in 17- and 15-ounce jars labeled La Joya Products Fully Cooked Pork Feet, Cured and Fully Cooked Pork Feet. The La Joya Fully Cooked Pork Skins are sold in 17-ounce jars. In addition to the name, La Joya, the labels have the establishment number 7719.

Crawford said USDA laboratory studies revealed food spoilage organisms. Also, one case of illness was reported to the San Diego County Public Health Department by a consumer who had eaten La Joya pork feet, he said.

“The firm has stopped production until our ongoing investigation is completed,” Crawford said.
