U.S. Ecology, the firm chosen to build and operate California’s first low-level radioactive waste dump, has narrowed its list of possible sites to 16 locations in desert areas of San Bernardino, Riverside and Inyo counties. The company, a subsidiary of Agoura Hills-based American Ecology, eliminated from consideration two locations, the Sheephole Basin in San Bernardino County and the Saline Valley in Inyo County. U.S. Ecology said selection will be narrowed further in January, after a series of public hearings.
