Billy Olson’s American indoor pole vault record...

Billy Olson’s American indoor pole vault record of 19 feet 5 inches, set last February at East Rutherford, N.J., was rejected because of an irregularity in the re-measurement of the bar, and Jackie Joyner lost three points from her world heptathlon mark in decisions by the records committee of The Athletics Congress at Tampa, Fla.

When Joyner set the world mark last Aug. 1-2 during the U.S. Olympic Festival at Houston, she was credited with 7,161 points. However, a re-reading of the finish photo in the 100-meter high hurdles, the opening event in the seven-event competition, showed Joyner’s time to be 200ths of a second slower, a loss of three points but still a world record total.

The committee did approve Olson’s mark of 19-3 3/4 at Albuquerque, N.M., last Jan 25.
