An article, “Preserved Older Building Will Be Haven for Elderly” (Dec. 14) notes that the design of the El Greco Apartments is attributed to Clara Bertram Humphrey.

The building was designed by the partnership of Walter S. and Pierpont Davis and was specifically undertaken by Pierpont while Walter S. was living with his family in Rome. It was one of the last buildings by the partnership, which formally ended in 1931.

Other courtyard housing projects by the firm included the Roman Gardens (Hollywood, 1926) and the lavish Villa d’Este (West Hollywood, 1928). Other important commissions by the Davises include Saint John’s Episcopal Church and the Patriotic Hall in downtown Los Angeles.
