Heicke Leads USIU to 3rd Straight Win
Russ Heicke scored 17 points, including the go-ahead basket with less than two minutes remaining, to lead United States International University to a 74-69 victory over Morgan State in a nonconference college basketball game Monday in Golden Hall.
Heicke broke a 66-66 tie with an eight-foot jumper. Mark Moses then made two free throws to extend the Gulls’ lead to 70-66. USIU, which also got 17 points from Kelly Andrews, is 3-6 with three straight victories. Morgan State is 3-5.
USIU took a 32-29 halftime lead on a three-point shot at the buzzer by Joe Yezback, and led, 47-36, with 12:16 remaining. But Morgan State outscored USIU, 14-2, in the next two minutes to take a 51-49 lead.
Yezback and Moses each added 16 points for the Gulls. Troy Brown scored a game-high 20 points for Morgan State.
