Jacket Zipper Deflects Bullet, Saves Detective
A jacket zipper that deflected a bullet and saved a police detective’s life did not survive the shooting, the officer said Sunday.
“The zipper was bent and torn from the impact of the bullet,” Sgt. Albert Green, 42, said. “It had to be cut out of the jacket.”
The bullet, which was fired at Green after he was called to a domestic dispute, apparently went through his left hand, hit the zipper and glanced off it late last week, authorities said.
Green, who was listed in satisfactory condition at Westlake Community Hospital in suburban Melrose Park, said he bought the civilian jacket at a discount store for $29.
