Promising to show us theirs if we’ll show them ours, a delegation of Soviet film makers and journalists will visit Hollywood next month for something called the Entertainment Summit. Among the programs being set up for the group is a seminar titled “Beyond the Stereotypes” at the American Film Institute. The Soviets will show film clips depicting Soviet stereotypes of Americans, and they will be shown clips from movies showing American stereotypes of Soviets. In addition, the group is to be wined and dined by hosts that will include the Directors Guild of America, the Writers Guild West and executives from Warner Bros. and Columbia Pictures. One summit session will be with members of the board of governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Soviets are considering launching an awards system in their own country and will be briefed on how the Oscars are organized and presented. The summit, organized by American producer Mark Gerzon, will convene in Los Angeles March 19-25, and the Soviets then will move on for four more days of conferences in New York.
