Boardroom Abandons Plan for Acquisition
Boardroom Business Products, a Costa Mesa-based retail computer store operator, said it is not proceeding with plans to acquire Gateway Computer Systems, another computer chain now in bankruptcy protection.
Thomas Zavada, Boardroom’s president, said Gateway’s bankruptcy filing forced Boardroom to revise its offer and, following that move, Gateway apparently accepted a rival acquisition bid.
“We are out of the picture now,” Zavada said. He said Boardroom, which operates three stores, is looking for other acquisition targets and is considering buy-out candidates in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago.
