Lakewood : Council OKs Parking Limits

Share

After hearing several complaints from residents of Levelside Avenue, the City Council has voted to prohibit parking on that street during the week between 7 and 9 a.m.

In December, about 30 signatures were submitted to the city from residents complaining that employees from McDonnell Douglas and other large businesses along Carson Avenue were parking all day on the 4100 block of Levelside.

A study by the Community Safety Commission showed that most drivers who parked on that street were going directly to Gate 28 of McDonnell Douglas, said George Envall, city traffic engineer. City officials said Gate 28 is scheduled to close sometime in early March, but residents urged the council to impose the parking restrictions immediately.

“I don’t want to be a parking lot for Douglas,” said one resident. “We’ve been hearing that Douglas will close that gate for a long time now. I think if we are going to do something we should do it now.”
