ORANGE COUNTY PREP BASEBALL : Roundup : Canyon’s Blado Finishes What He Starts : Pitcher Returns in the Seventh to Get Last Out in 6-2 Victory

Canyon High School pitcher Dave Blado allowed only two hits and struck out six batters to lead the Comanches (4-0, 8-1) to a 6-2 Century League victory over Santa Ana Valley Tuesday at Canyon.

Blado started the game and pitched 6 shutout innings. He left with two outs in the seventh inning, but Santa Ana Valley scored two quick runs off Scott Myers, Blado’s replacement. Blado returned to the mound, under the re-entry rule, and got the last out.

Hector Lanbaren was the losing pitcher for Santa Ana Valley (2-2 in league).

Santa Ana 8, El Modena 4 (eight innings)--Santa Ana broke a 4-4 tie in the eighth inning, scoring four runs to defeat El Modena Tuesday. Oscar Lewis’ two-run homer in the sixth helped Sergio Guerrero earn the victory. Jim Star was the loser. The Saints are 2-2, 7-3. El Modena is 1-3, 4-6.

Villa Park 7, Foothill 2--Winning pitcher Jerry Aschoff (2-0) pitched a complete game, allowing three hits and striking out five to lead the Spartans (2-2, 5-6) at home. Trent Eye was 2 for 4 with three RBIs.

Foothill was led by Pat Crawford, who hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning.

In the Academy League:

Newport Christian 14, Cal Lutheran 1--Newport Christian (3-1, 6-1) had eight hits and took advantage of eight Cal Lutheran errors at Costa Mesa’s TeWinkle Park. Newport Christian scored eight runs in the fifth inning, led by Scott Cooper’s two-run single and Donovan Whitworth’s two-run triple. Joe Alston (2-1) pitched four innings and allowed no hits and struck out nine.

In nonleague games:

St. Margaret’s 7, Boys’ Republic 5--Mark Flather (4-1) pitched a complete game, striking out 13 to lead St. Margaret’s (4-3) at home. Geoff Michel was 2 for 3 with a double with two RBIs.

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 5, Capistrano Valley Christian 0--Scott Wire (5-1) threw a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts. He had a no-hitter for 5 innings. Rick Gress was 3 for 3, with an RBI for Orange Lutheran (2-1, 8-5) at Orange. Matt Wilson went 2 for 4 with an RBI double for Orange.
