San Diego : High School Baseball : Dickson Loses No-Hitter but Gets Shutout

Lance Dickson of Grossmont High School had his bid for a no-hitter ended with two out in the seventh inning Tuesday, as Rick Ayala of Mount Miguel lined a 3-2 pitch to left for a single.

Dickson struck out 15 to lead Grossmont to a 3-0 Grossmont League victory over the Matadors at Spring Valley. Mount Miguel pitcher Anthony Garnica held first-place Grossmont (3-0, 9-1) to five hits. Mount Miguel is 0-2, 5-3.

El Capitan 10, Santana 7--Trailing, 4-2, El Capitan scored seven runs off Santana ace Bill Reed in the bottom of the seventh to give the defending San Diego Section 3-A champion Sultans their second straight loss. Jason Escoto led El Capitan (3-0, 7-2) with a solo home run and a bases-loaded double. Escoto was 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs. Tim Barry led Santana (1-2, 6-3).

Granite Hills 9, El Cajon 8--Brian Giles scored on an error with two outs in the fifth at El Cajon. The game was called after five innings because of darkness. Giles was 3 for 3 with three RBIs. Steve Friar was the winner for Granite Hills (2-0, 5-2). El Cajon drops to 1-2, 4-4.

Valhalla 6, Monte Vista 1--Justin Post pitched a four-hitter to lead Valhalla at home. Eric Yetta went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI for Valhalla (2-1, 4-5). Monte Vista is 0-3, 3-6.

METRO CONFERENCE

Coronado 9, Sweetwater 6--Steve Lucal was 4 for 4 with two RBI and Matt Rutter went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and scored three runs to lead Coronado (1-0, 7-2) at home. Paul Austin (2-0) pitched four innings as Coronado scored four runs in the fourth and three in the sixth. Sweetwater is 0-1, 2-7.

Hilltop 7, Castle Park 6--Rob DePerro tripled home the winning run in the bottom of the eighth to give Hilltop (1-0, 2-5) the victory at home. Joe Calabria was 2 for 3 with three RBI for Hilltop (0-1, 6-1).
