Calabasas Officials to Rule on Fairly’s Athletic Eligibility

The eligibility of Calabasas High baseball player Pat Fairly will be determined today in a meeting between Coach Art Borgquist and Principal Bob Ross, Borgquist said Tuesday.

Fairly was one of 42 students involved in a drinking incident aboard a bus chartered to carry students to a school dance March 14. Las Virgenes Unified School District officials had banned 19 students who were involved in extracurricular activities from participating for the rest of the school year. Fairly has missed two Frontier League games.

Officials said Monday that the athletes could have that ban lifted if they and their parents participated in a 16-hour educational program. Fairly, who has enrolled in the program, was unavailable for comment.

Fairly was given permission to practice with the team Monday. He was ineligible to play Tuesday in Calabasas’ 2-1 victory over Agoura.
