Los Angeles artist Joseph L. Young has been appointed as a commissioner on the West Hollywood Fine Arts Board. Young is best known for his triforium in the Los Angeles Civic Center and his bas-relief mosaic murals on the auditorium facade of the Mathematical Sciences Building at UCLA.

Television writer and producer Saul Turteltaub has been named chairman of the entertainment division of United Jewish Fund. Named as associate chairmen were Raymond Kurtzman, vice president for business affairs of Creative Artists Agency, and Ben Hoberman, former president of ABC’s radio division. They are responsible for fund raising for the organization’s humanitarian services locally and in Israel.

The UCLA School of Medicine has received a grant of $120,000 from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for two-year fellowship support of Dr. Keith L. Black, assistant professor of neurosurgery. The grant was made under the foundation’s Minority Medical Faculty Development Program.

Martin Fischer, vice president and general manager of Saks Fifth Avenue, Beverly Hills, has joined the board of governors of the Beverly Hills Visitors Bureau, according to bureau Chairman John Martens. Fischer has taught retail management at UCLA and was on the board of directors of the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce.

Pepperdine College’s third president, Chancellor Emeritus M. Norvel Young, will be honored at a dinner at 4:30 p.m. April 24 on the Malibu campus. The dinner is part of Pepperdine’s 44th annual Bible lectureship, which begins April 21. Young is a Malibu resident.

Augusto Marinoni, professor of Italian literature and philology at the Universita Cattolica and president of the Raccolta Vinciana at the Sforza Castle in Milan, Italy, has been named the first recipient of the Armand Hammer Award for Excellence in Leonardo Studies, a biennial prize awarded to an outstanding Leonardo scholar by the Armand Hammer Center for Leonardo Studies at UCLA’s College of Fine Arts. Marinoni will receive the award and deliver a lecture, “The Place of the Codex Hammer in the Development of Leonardo’s Thought,” at 6 p.m. Wednesday .in the Dickson Auditorium on the Westwood campus. The event is free.

Earl (Pee Wee) Willman has received a commendation from the Culver City Council in recognition of his work in the interests of veterans of the armed forces, his service at the Veterans Rehabilitation Center in West Los Angeles and his leadership as a member of Local 728 International Assn. of Theatrical Studio Employees. Willman, who recently retired from his position as head of the electronics department at Lorimar, has also been active in the Motion Picture Country Home and Hospital and for the past two years has played Santa Claus for Lorimar, visiting homes for the underprivileged and battered children in the Los Angeles area.
