The ‘Leashing’ of Children

Share

I would like to respond to Katherine Manabat’s letter (April 3) regarding the “leashing” of children.

I respond as a proud and responsible parent who “leashes” his child when visiting malls or walking in the streets. I do so because these hand-holders (not leashes) afford the children their natural curiosity and inquisitive tendencies yet restrain them from being the subject of a nationwide search as a result of abduction of which we parents are constantly aware.

The positive comments that both my wife and I have received from other parents regarding our use of the hand-holder leads me to believe that the aforementioned writer must be a person who has yet to have had any parental responsibility.
