Conservatives Bristle at Definition of Contras

WASHINGTON —
The State Department withdrew from circulation Friday a publication that has enraged conservatives by describing the Nicaraguan rebels as right-wingers based in Honduras and Costa Rica.
The definition appeared in the 1987 edition of “Dictionary of International Relations Terms,” published by the department’s reference library. Officials said the volume will be republished after corrections are made.
