Airport Service Inc., which has provided limousine service to John Wayne, Los Angeles International and Long Beach airports for decades, has been purchased by FunBus Systems Inc. in Anaheim and renamed Airlink Airport Service.

FunBus, which purchased the company earlier this month for approximately $5 million, said it expects to expand limousine services to include stops at several hotels in the Costa Mesa, Irvine and Newport Beach areas around John Wayne Airport. In addition, the company said it expects to continue its shuttles between LAX and the major hotels around Disneyland in Anaheim.

Airport Service Inc. had been owned by the Chromalloy Corp. of St. Louis. A FunBus spokesman said that all 150 Airport Service Inc. drivers were laid off before the purchase. The spokesman said several had been hired by FunBus after completing a testing program.

The tour and charter business operated by FunBus will not be affected by the purchase.
