Anaheim : Man Found Burned to Death in Flaming Car

Share

Police Friday were seeking to identify a man whose charred remains were found in an abandoned station wagon that burned in an empty parking lot.

Firefighters arrived at the parking lot across from La Palma Park on Anaheim Boulevard in north Anaheim at 11:45 p.m. Thursday to put out flames in a 1972 Ford station wagon. They called police after finding the remains of the man in the back seat of the car, according to Police Lt. Peter De Paola.

“It does not look like foul play at this time,” De Paola said. “At this time it looks like he fell asleep and the car caught flames.”

De Paola said the victim appeared to be a transient because he was sleeping in a car that did not work and had been abandoned.

Last month a man who had been smoking and drinking fell asleep in a car on Lynne Street in Anaheim and was burned to death after he failed to extinguish his cigarette, De Paola said.
