Surgery Ends Year for Mets’ Ojeda
New York Met pitcher Bob Ojeda will require surgery to correct a nerve problem in his left elbow and will be lost to the team for the remainder of the season, the club announced Wednesday.
Ojeda was examined by Dr. Jim Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., Wednesday, and, in a subsequent telephone conversation with team physician Dr. James Parkes, it was agreed that Ojeda’s problem involves the ulnar nerve below the elbow and that surgery is necessary.
Ojeda was 2-4 with a 4.31 earned-run average in six starts this season. He has not pitched since May 9.
