Zarian’s Son Pleads No Contest to Theft

The 21-year-old son of Glendale City Councilman Larry Zarian pleaded no contest to embezzling $3,500 from the Nordstrom department store in Glendale and has been ordered into a drug rehabilitation program.

“He was using the money to buy drugs--cocaine,” Deputy Dist. Atty. John Bernardi said of Gregory William Zarian, one of the councilman’s twin sons.

Gregory Zarian was sentenced last week to a 30-day freeway work detail that will begin in June, was placed on three years’ probation and ordered to repay Nordstrom within three years, said Bernardi.

Zarian, who worked as a salesman at Nordstrom, was arrested Feb. 27 and charged with misdemeanor grand theft after store security personnel said they saw him steal $80 from a cash register.

Security officers said they witnessed Zarian ring up false cash returns, then take money from the open drawer on three separate occasions.
