USIU’s Maritz Trails by 7 in NCAA Golf
Evelyn Orley of Duke shot a five-under-par 68 to tie the course record in the first round of the NCAA Division I women’s golf tournament Wednesday at the University of New Mexico South Course in Albuquerque, N.M.
United States International University’s Laurette Maritz, the nation’s top-ranked woman golfer, was in the middle of the pack after shooting 75 on the first day of the four-day, 72-hole tournament.
Orley tied the course record set by Arizona’s Martina Koch last fall.
Duke leads the team competition at 289, two strokes ahead of Miami and Florida. USIU is tied with UCLA in 14th place at 307.
