Stuart Bernstein, a high-ranking Los Angeles school administrator convicted of failing to immediately report child molestation allegations against a teacher to police, has been demoted. Bernstein, 49, the former head of one of the district’s eight regional divisions, will be director of instruction within one of those divisions, the district said. Alice McDonald, who was principal at 68th Street elementary school, where the complaints emerged, was demoted to assistant principal. Bernstein, convicted last July, was ordered to perform 400 hours of community service and placed on two years’ probation. Teacher Terry Bartholome is serving a 44-year prison term.
