Douglas nearly catches Ravel’s subtle orchestral timbres in this adoring, flashy and powerful rendition of Mussorgsky’s original piano version of “Pictures.” The soloist gives a strong, dramatic performance of Liszt’s symphonic sonata and an enjoyable account of Liszt’s Wagner transcription.
