A Fremont couple was killed when the light plane in which they were flying home crashed near a reservoir in Oakdale, about 80 miles southeast of San Francisco. The victims, identified as Francis Mings, 49, and his wife, Melissa Mings, 35, were reported missing after taking off from the Columbia Airport in the Mother Lode region en route to Fremont. The wreckage of their two-seater plane was discovered the next morning by a farmer. Authorities said there was no immediate indication of what caused the crash.
