Tamas Darnyi of Hungary set a world record in the 200-meter individual medley at the European Swimming Championships at Strasbourg, France, his second world record of the competition.

Darnyi’s time of 2 minutes 0.56 seconds broke the mark of 2:01.42 set by Alex Baumann of Canada at the 1984 Olympics. Darnyi, 20, also set a world record in the 400 individual medley last Tuesday.

East Germany finished with 18 gold medals, the most of any nation. The East German women won 14 of 16 events.
