Tustin : Old Cash Registers, Classic Auto Burned

Share

Fire consumed a Tustin garage Sunday evening, burning up a classic 1957 Thunderbird and several antique cash registers that were stored there, fire officials said.

The blaze caused $65,000 in damage to the contents of the garage and $32,000 damage to the house owned by Arthur Johnson, according to Patti Range, a county Fire Department spokeswoman. No one was injured in the blaze.

Range said investigators have not determined the cause of the fire, which was reported by a neighbor at 8:16 p.m. when he saw smoke coming from the house in the 11700 block of Via Rancho in Tustin.

Range said Johnson’s 23-year-old daughter was in house alone when the unidentified neighbor spied flames, warned her and then called the Fire Department.

Nineteen firefighters responded to the call, and the blaze was brought under control within 15 minutes, Range said. The fire also caused damage to the house’s roof and attic.
